FAQs

Q. How do I know if my roof needs to be replaced?
Usually we recommend replacing roofs every 20 years. However visible cues can also signal a need for roof replacement. If you see leaks, missing or torn shingles, loose flashings, shingle granules in gutters, or ceiling spots, call a roofer today.

Q. Which roofing material should I choose?
There is no single answer to this question as each person may have different needs, budgets, and tastes. However, we do recommend that when building a roof you consider the life expectancy of the material, as certain roofs are more durable than others.

Q. What are ice dams?
When water accumulates in between shingles and freezes, it expands forcing the shingles apart. These “ice dams” can affect the long term health of your roof and may even cause leaks over time. However, if addressed appropriately, ice dams can be fixed fairly easily.

Q. How long do metal roofs typically last?
Metal roofs come in different alloys and coatings. However, on the whole, they are considered significantly more durable than traditional shakes or shingle roofs. Expect a metal roof to last at least 50 years before needing replacement.

Q. If my roof is leaking do I need to have it completely replaced?
When determining how to resolve a roof leak, our crew will examine both the age and the current state of your roof. If your roof can be fixed with simple repairs we will choose this option as it saves you time and money. However if there are other notable signs of wear or damage, we may need to replace your roof entirely.

Q. What are some signs of hail damage to my roof?
For severe hail damage, you may notice visible indentations in your roof or gutters. However, most hail damage is not easily noticed by the untrained eye. If you recently experienced a hail storm, we recommend you call Yarkey Roofing for a consultation.

Q. How long do asphalt shingles typically last?
The lifespan of most shingles is around 20 years. However there is a variance in the quality of shingles and thus their life expectancy. More affordable shingles will usually need replacement every 15 years while higher grade shingles can last up to 50 years.

Q. How long does a roof replacement job take?
Most jobs can be finished in the same day. However for jobs that last longer, we will ensure that the project site is cleaned and secured to protect it from the weather.
